I will always hold Dick's Picks, Vol. 1: Tampa, FL 12/19/1973 dear to my heart since I remember the very day I got that number like it was yesterday...and 1993 is a long time ago in relative terms. I ordered it and had it sent via US Postal and man was I stoked when the mail lady showed up that day!

on that note, if you have yet to enter the world of Dick's Picks Volume "Anything" then I suggest you might as well begin at good 'ol #1. Why not? Makes sense in a sort of way doesn't it? I can tell you that no matter what you chose to do in the end that you will not be disappointed, as they're all good in my book. And like wisconsindead said, all the gems have their moments. It's the Dead afterall, so how could one go wrong? No decision I ever made regarding The Magnificent Seven was ever a bad decision.

Here's another idea. Where I live we have a book store that lets you listen to CD's on headphones thru the packaging. They give you like a 20 second clip of each song. I like going there and listening to all the Dick's Picks and if there's enough cash in my wallet, and if the wind is just right...I'll walk away with the one that suited my fancy the most on that particular day. Which is another point. One day one show may be better to you or move you more than the next day. My experience with the Grateful Dead is that the music moves me based on the day I hear it. One day I feel one thing or hear one particular jam that moves me more or less than the last time or the next time I hear that same jam...know where I'm getting at?

I guess I'm saying that basically it's all good...all the time and you can't go wrong with the good 'ol Grateful Dead!

Peace!
